Thirumittakode Anjumoorthy Temple

Thirumittakode Anjumoorthy temple about 15 km from our garden. A very old temple supposed to have been established by the Pandavas as a Vishnu temple with four idols of Vishnu. In the 10th century, a chola general came and set up a Shiva idol in front of the Vishnu idols (they ere Saivaites). He made an inscription in the temple (still there) promising gold coins for the upkeep of the temple. There are some later murals as well. One important feature of this temple is that the Bharathapuzha reaches unto the temple (which is on a small hill) and then turns around and flows - as if it came to have darshan. This temple is one of 108 vishnu temples of the Divya Desam of all Vaishnaviates in India

Pazhayannur Bhagavathy Temple

Pazhayannur Bhagavathy Temple - 22 km from the garden. This was the family temple of the Kochi kings. Hence there is a symbol of rooster (Kochi king’s emblem) outside the temple. Also devotees offer roosters as vazhipadu;  they live and roam around freely in the temple premises with plenty of food. But the temple is kept clean and well maintained. Temple is believed to be more than 500 years old. In those times this temple – known as Pallipurath Mahavishnu – was dedicated to Lord Vishnu. temple
